This company literally held my belongings hostage. They showed up with an inflated bill full of hidden fees and refused to unload the truck until I paid in full. I felt completely trapped because I had no choice but to pay. It was one of the most stressful experiences I’ve ever had.

I had a cross country move and it did not go well. This is a “middle man” company that was completely unnecessary and made promises that were outright incorrect. I feel duped and that they told me anything I wanted To hear just to get my business.

Very unfortunate and stressful experience, highly suggest avoiding this company. They are a broker and will sublet your work to multiple companies throughout the process, subjecting you to multiple price changes and excess handling of your items. I’ll note that the people I interacted with over the phone were very nice, however how my move unfolded was everything I was afraid of.Scheduling: Scheduled a move from California to North Carolina with a tight 4 day drop off window. Went through a detailed inventory process (provided dimensions of my larger pieces) and was quoted $2,700 for 420 cubic feet. All seemed well. When the logistics team called to confirm details pre pickup, they explained that there was no way they could meet my drop off window due to federal regulations, and I would need to pay an additional $2K for expedited delivery to hit that timeline - which I did. I also notified them that I had an additional (10) pieces that were not accounted for in our initial inventory review - I was assured that the cubic footage quote was still in line.Pickup: Upon pickup the actual company moving my items (Best Moving based in Santa Clara CA) looked at my storage unit and said the contents was approximately twice as large as what I was scheduled for - and proceeded to charge me an additional $2K (now $6,700 total). I also had to resign an entire new contract on site during pickup with Best Moving. The quoting process used by Compass was extremely inaccurate and they have refused to take any responsibility for it.Drop off: Got a call from a driver at 4am about a week ahead of my expedited delivery window stating he was going to drop my items off the next day - took a few hours but was able to work with Best Moving company to fix this. Delivery ended up being on time however the two gentlemen who delivered my items were not professional movers (they were very kind and worked very hard, however they rented a Uhaul truck to pick my items up from god knows where and stated they do not do this full time). A couple of my nicer pieces were damaged, understandably so granted they had been loaded and re-loaded multiple times throughout this process. The final payment was requested by a 3rd company (Hail Ways Trucking LLC). I’ve been waiting to get a receipt for a week for my final payment despite multiple attempts to acquire it.Summary: Throughout this process, I’ve contacted Compass Moving multiple times to discuss the price changes/issues however they’ve been unwilling to work with me on anything. I’ve been promised call backs and don’t receive them. I ended up working with the sublet company (Best Moving) to get more timely resolution of issues and general updates. They got my money, and there's nothing I can do at this point. Don’t give them yours.
