Spectacular move!!

TLDR: $675 in bogus, last-minute fees; $600 in missing and damaged furniture; racist and misogynistic employees. No results from engaging with customer service in the 11 ... Read More TLDR: $675 in bogus, last-minute fees; $600 in missing and damaged furniture; racist and misogynistic employees. No results from engaging with customer service in the 11 months since my move. The movers arrived hours late on Friday. I met one of them, Eric, at the loading dock and we rode up in the elevator. We didn’t even get all the way to my apartment from the elevator and Eric informed me that it’s a “long haul,” and charged me more than $300 because my apartment was so far from the elevator. Eric also made multiple comments about how his boss is Jewish and “all about the money.” It was a long distance move from DC to NYC and I was taking the train while the movers drove my things north over the weekend: Eric asked how much they “raped” me for the last-minute train ticket. I paid the extra fees and got on the train; the movers left on the truck with my things. On Monday morning, the movers call to say they've arrived at my apartment in NYC. Eric says “you’ve got a long haul hon, meet me at the corner of the street.” My mom was with me at the time so we met them at their truck at the corner. They inform us that they can’t park on my street, so they charge me another $300 before they’re even out of the truck! I get on the phone with the moving coordinator to discuss what we can do, and he says that the possibility of an extra fee for a long haul was “in the contract.” That was his answer to everything: “It was in the contract—that you signed.” He says that I could have gotten a permit to reserve a parking space on my street to avoid the extra fee, but NYC doesn’t always allow that. Then he says “well I know QA went over that with you and all the calls are recorded, I can find the recording if you like.” What a patronizing way to treat a customer who paid you over $2000 and counting. The movers then gave my mother their measuring device so that she “believes” the movers when they say it’s a long haul. Beyond condescending. They knew they had leverage because all of my things were in that truck and I had to start work that day; I told them to unload the truck. My mom and I got back to the apartment and the movers started to unload. With the first batch of my things that came in, I could tell that some items were damaged. My office chair was ripped; the floor lamp cover was hanging from a wire; the dining chairs were chipped; boxes were crushed. Easily $600 worth of damaged furniture. Eric comes in with the third or fourth load and asks if I’ve paid yet. I say no: I don’t have nearly all of my things yet and there’s a lot still on the truck. Eric said that his boss, Adam, is texting him asking if I’ve paid. I said I’m not going to pay until all my stuff is in the apartment. Next thing I know, I’m on the phone with Adam because the movers supposedly couldn't continue to unload until I paid. On the phone, Adam was rude, condescending, greedy, and hostile before I uttered a single word. He said the movers wouldn’t continue to unload until I’ve paid, and when I said that I didn’t pay until the end of pickup and I won’t pay until the end of dropoff, he threatened to put my things in storage. I reiterated that I would not pay until I had all my things and could see the state they were in. He responded with “look, like we said when we picked your things up in Miami…” I came from DC: He didn’t even know or care who he was talking to! Then he hung up on me. He wasn’t even doing the work, and at this point he already had two-thirds of my money with the rest of my payment—PLUS an EXTRA $300—on the way. So, I withheld payment until the movers delivered what I thought were all of my things. The movers continued to unload and my mom made them coffee. She asks how the coffee was; Eric says it’s “shitty—just being honest.” They unloaded all my stuff and I paid them promptly, including the extra $300. They left with the coffee, water, and donuts that we had bought them. This was 11 months ago. I finally got a claims check for $162 and it was just returned by my bank, unable to be cashed.

WORST COMPANY EVER

I would be cautious with the estimates that are given. One bed removed from 3 bedroom home. We were quoted a price for a tractor trailer. Then it went to two 28' trucks. ... Read More I would be cautious with the estimates that are given. One bed removed from 3 bedroom home. We were quoted a price for a tractor trailer. Then it went to two 28' trucks. The move ended up with one 28' truck. There was no reduction in price. We had three weeks to pack and were told the movers would be there for around 6-8 hours placing our goods in their truck. They were there for under 2 hours and did not take all the items and took some items that were not on their list. They were good about coming back and picking up items that they originally missed, twice. We did have a little damage to two items. My biggest complaint would be about the charge we were given. If given a price for a tractor trailer and then having one truck take the items just did not seem correct.

Read More I kept the dispatch coordinator aware of all of these things and his response was to file a claim with moving insurance, which will take up to 120 days. Moving is always stressful and I am always prepared to lose some items on the way and for things to go unexpectedly, but this was so far beyond that; I am still reeling from the experience. Edit after promising to process a refund (how much wasn't disclosed) for the poor services and for charging me $400 in specialty dish boxes even though they used the home depot boxes I brought myself, they are now ignoring all of my phone calls and emails. Truly awful service and extremely dishonest.

They absolutely destroyed everything I owned. $10,000 white sofa is covered in stains and glue. $5,000 marble coffee table is shattered. TV, that they changed $150 to pack, had a step ladder packed between the screen and the box! It's ruined. $2,800 office chair is scratched badly. Dinner table is ruined. Every single box is smashed. They said my best bet was to file a err it! I literally have to pay someone to come and take this stuff to the dump now. I would have been better off throwing it away where I lived. They also almost doubled the price after they loaded items in the truck.
