Read More Please please do not use this company! I received a quote on June third for a pickup on June 28th or 29th. I have read all of the horror stories about discrepancies in inventory and cost at the time of pickup so I was very diligent about an extremely exhaustively accurate inventory list. Jerrid and I spent almost 2 hours on the phone going over my inventory list. He was incredibly professional incredibly nice very patient said all the right things. I had received lower quotes but chose to go with this company because of how much I trusted the things that I was told in my estimate. I tried to update my inventory list more than 10 days before my move just so that if there were changes to the pricing I would be aware as I had a very very strict budget. I was told that the company refused to update an inventory until 3 to 5 days before the move. That was my first red flag and I should have listened. 2 days before the move I still had not received a call. I proactively called the company. When I finally get the quality call with Rick I was flabbergasted by the change in price for the items that I added I tried to cancel at that point and was told that if I cancel within 3 days I lose my entire deposit. So now I understand why they would not update my inventory prior to that 3-day window because I'm sure they would have multiple people canceled by the change in price. I agree to the price because I kind of have little choice at this point and I fly back to Minnesota to meet the moving truck. The driver calls me at 10:15 and says he's about 40 minutes away. At 12:30 I send him a text asking for an ETA . He shows up at a little before 1:00 p.m. The man who showed up at my house was an older gentleman with his wife in a rented Penske truck. I asked him where the rest of the crew was because I was told that I would have two to three professional movers. At that point the gentleman tells me that he hired people from Minneapolis to come down and help him for the day and they were 40 minutes out. I then asked if these were full-time people with the company and he informs me that they are day laborers that he hired and worked with the previous evening and liked them. I then tell him that in my contract with Nationwide I was supposed to be receiving professional movers that were licensed with FMS CA and asked him to show me any type of proof or documentation that he was. He stated that he did not have anything like that but he had been in the moving business for 9 years and that he would do a good job for me so I should trust him. At this point I am between a rock and a hard place and I tell him that I'm really not comfortable with the situation but he can come in. Before he ever even steps into my house this man tells me that the move is likely going to cost more than I was quoted and he needs to do a physical inventory before they can start. I tell him that he can do an inventory but per my contract under terms and conditions #9 uit states that I cannot be charged anymore than what I was quoted for as long as I provided an accurate list of my inventory which I was very sure that I had done. During the walkthrough we come upon a piece of furniture that I had been very specific with Nationwide that had to be crated is extremely valuable and very fragile. I had paid Nationwide extra in order to have this item crated. The gentleman then tells me that he cannot crate it but he can wrap it in blankets and cardboard if I want to pay extra to him directly. He also tells me at this point that he has only picking it up at my house and taking it to his "personal" warehouse in Rochester and that he could guarantee that my fragile item would at least make it to his warehouse but whoever picked it up from his place and took it to North Carolina would be in an 18-wheeler and he couldn't guarantee anything. I then asked him where this Warehouse was and who has access to it and he said that only he has access to his HOUSE. I have course asked the follow-up question as to if it was a house or a warehouse and he backtracked and said he meant to say warehouse. Again become super frustrated and stressed out because I feel like I am absolutely stuck with this person I cannot trust because I have to fly back to North Carolina on Sunday. When we go back downstairs he tries to get me to sign a document that states that I could have and be charged for 1,500 cubic feet... more than double what I was quoted or contracted for using a very explicit inventory list. I refused to sign the document and call Nationwide at this point. I tried reaching out to Jerrid who did not answer my texts. I then reached out to customer service and spoke with Maggie. This is now about an hour and a half into this gentleman being on my property. His day laborers are still not here at this point. I started talking with Maggie through the process who was at times argumentative and other times patient and understanding. She was the first person who suggested that maybe we should send these Movers away and get a different company to come out. I was hesitant to do so because I'm again on a very short timeline and I'm afraid that they're just going to send somebody out who's going to do the exact same thing so what would be the purpose. It's another probably two to two and a half hours going back and forth between the movers the dispatch company for the movers... who I find out don't actually work for the secondary company that Nationwide farmed my move out to they're a THIRD company involved... I get more and more frustrated and Maggie eventually passes me over to a supervisor named Paula. Paula is nice and kind and understanding and placates me and says all of the right things. She eventually talks about wanting to do an investigation into this company that THEY hired because of the unethical business practices that are being displayed. While I'm on the phone with Paula (and this is about 3 and 1/2 hours now since the gentleman and his wife showed up... still no day laborers...) the Mover comes up to me and tells me that if I'm not going to sign the document he has to go. I then ask him how he would even begin to load up if I signed the document because he has no helpers. He then says they're 20 minutes away and attempts to show me their text conversation in which they said that they were 40 minutes away more than 3 hours ago. At this point I am beyond uncomfortable with the entire situation I tell Paula that and Paula advises to go ahead and send the movers away and that she will try to get another company out there by tonight or tomorrow and that she has a company that she really likes in Minnesota that she can call. So I agree to send the Mover away. She then puts me on hold and said she's going to get in contact with the other company. She comes back on the line in a few minutes later and says unfortunately the other company is not available until Tuesday but she promises to call me back no later than 6:00 p.m. before she leaves with some sort of options or resolution. That was about 3:45p (4:45p her time). I never got a call back last night. I tried to call her three times before 6:00 p.m. and realized that my calls are no longer even going to customer service.. they are going to someone's personal voicemail. I've tried to call several times today with no one picking up the phone or calling me back. I have tried to text Jared who was my estimator. He's not responded. I've tried to call a separate number to Maggie directly which goes to her voicemail. I'm being ghosted by a company that I've paid what is a large amount of money to me to move me and they have failed on every piece of their contract. I am now in the process of trying to scramble together a Penske or U-Haul rental truck and trying to find laborers to help me load my truck at the last minute at the end of the month and one of the biggest moving months of the year. It's not going well. Deplorable and unethical company in my opinion and based on my experience. Please do yourself a favor and hire literally ANYONE else.
